| Citizen Paine A strong, stylish and dramatic piece of solo theatre, Citizen Paine tells the true story of Tom Paine whose publication of The Rights of Man, written in support of the French revolution, made him the most controversial figure in England.
|
Paine fled from England twenty
minutes ahead of warrants ordering his arrest. In France
he was greeted as a hero but it wasn't long before the
wheel of revolution turned and he was imprisoned, coming
within hours of being guillotined in Paris. Sharing his cell are a doctor, a drummer and a locksmith. Together they relate how they have become trapped in the revolution.
