| The
Happy Prince
Oscar Wilde's fairy tale tells of the friendship between the statue of the Happy Prince and a little swallow on his way to Egypt for the winter. Standing on a tall column, the Happy Prince can see all the ugliness and misery of the city, and though his heart is made of lead he cannot help but weep. The swallow agrees to stay with the Happy Prince and help the poor people who are suffering from cold and hunger. This classic story is retold using puppets and large animated sculptures, and contrasts the harsh realities of a city in winter with breathtaking scenes of the warm Egyptian paradise that awaits the swallow. With spellbinding music composed by Andrew Dodge, this is a magical experience for children and adults alike. Ages 5 plus (KS1 and 2) We also run a professionally led puppet making workshop to accompany the show. During the workshop, which lasts for approximately 60 minutes, we work with a maximum group of 25 children (or one class) aged 5-11. "With their expert blend of
puppetry, storytelling, animated sculptures, imaginative sets, and
wonderful specially composed music by Andrew Dodge, Cornelius and
Jones have come up trumps again. As with last years excellent
Pinocchio, their presentation of Oscar Wilde's beautiful moral fable
is faultless, charming and magical. Neil Canham is one of the most
gifted storytellers I've ever seen. " |
